Children's Lights

The nature of lighting products mean that they can get hot and are a potential hazard for little fingers. To guard against this there is an IEC safety regulation that applies to children's lighting.

The IEC regulation applies to portable lights, such as bedside or table lights, rather than fixed ceiling and wall lights. A summary of the regulation is detailed below.

IEC regulation, EN60598-2-10: Portable Luminaires for Children, applies to lights that can be physically moved while still connected to the mains (therefore excluding fixed ceiling and wall lights). Under these regulations, the maximum temperature of accessible parts, including the bulb if accessible, is 60 °C for metal parts and 75 °C for other parts, measured during normal operation.
