Wall-friendly hanging

Hanging without screws Just because you rent or lease accommodation or office space doesn’t mean there is no way you can hang your favourite picture or jacket. Now you can, without fear of losing your deposit (or upsetting fussy landlords). There are, however, other situations where not banging nails into walls could be a good idea; before we got married my husband lived at home and his parents didn’t like holes in their walls, so this could have been good for him, too! Come to think of it, my brother-in-law is not a real handyman so there’s another person that could have benefitted. Imagine no longer needing a drill and screwdriver – the safety factor alone makes it worthwhile. In any case, if you’re one who (for whatever reason) can’t hang things on walls, read on as we may have a solution…

For hanging coats, umbrellas, hats and handbags the axis chrome over door rack with 3 hooks is ideal. It hangs over a door, negating the need to put holes into a wall, so that you can put up hooks for your hats. Of course, it can also hold those last-minute-out-the-door items you only remember when you’re halfway up the street and running late anyway. Help cut down the time you take getting ready in the mornings by hanging your coat hanger on the hooks with your day’s outfit already picked out.

Spring cleaning – are you ready?

Fatboy hammock For many of us the Easter Bank Holiday marks the time to get outside and take control of the garden again ready for the warm summer ahead (a bit of optimism never hurt anyone!).

At the end of last summer we threw the removable contents of the garden into the shed or garage and went inside to hibernate. Now we need to unearth the garden table and chairs, the pond cleaner and array of garden tools and clutter and re-locate outside for some fresh air.

But before you’re ready to sit back and soak up some sunshine, you may need to have a bit of an external spring clean. The all-up-and-on range of garden and garage storage products can help you take control and re-organise your garage or shed. The range includes a number of practical storage products, from the hose pipe tidy to the long handled tool rack, all of which mean your garage will soon be spick and span. For the more active amongst us, there are also some great storage options for sporting equipment, from the ball tidy, to golf and bike racks.

And once you’re done you can dust off your barbeque, set up your Fatboy hammock and prepare for a relaxing time alfresco!

Shelving, storage and the 6 inch nail

Shelving and storage OK, so there I was musing on the subject of shelving and storage – it was a slow day Рand my thoughts turned to how boring the majority of options available are. Sure, there are many finishes to choose from, but the basic principles remain the same.

Shelves are lengths of wood, metal or whatever, held up by brackets attached to the wall by several screws. Invisible fixings and racking systems add a touch of excitement to the deal but that is about it. Books, in particular remain destined to be shunted along endless boring rows of variations on the standard bookshelf, many never to be read again.

Garages, garden stores and workshops are festooned with the legacy of, admittedly highly satisfactory, sessions whacking 6 inch nails into any available wall space at varying heights. From these, everything from spanners to saws, spades and screwdrivers hang limply like some still life piece eulogising the pleasure & pain of DIY.
